Tell me what man has predicted the future that described things that have come true?

we have Nostradamus and the book of revelations. Not in anyway disregarding the bible but what has come true in either of them that wouldn't have come true anyway written or not? Why is there a great desire to believe in the doom and gloom of the destruction of the earth that people have written about centuries ago?
