What's the real deal with AA?

I understand completely. I think the only way to is to do this on our own. Although a good understanding friend helps so much. Seems like AA try's to do things in their way and they think that is the only way. You have made the commitment to yourself. That alone is the most important thing. The gloom and doom is too much for me too.. I think we have to talk with God on our terms and He alone knows our struggles. I dont know the magic answer.
