How crucial is obtaining and understanding Knowledge in life?

There is useless knowledge and misleading knowledge. And there is good knowledge and hidden knowledge. How important, in this day and age, is being a man of knowledge? I truly believe Knowledge is Power. Some people say "the more knowledge, the more sorrow" but I believe that only applies if you learn the WRONG kind of knowledge.
