I'm tired of hearing of fear mongering about economic and dollar collapse and gold & silver.?

Is this even a real possibility? I'm just tired of hearing all the doom, gloom, and fear mongering that is out there. It can quite daunting for a new investor who is learning all he can about owning financial assets. Can someone explain in simple terms what is the motivation behind the fear mongering of dollar/stock market/ economic collapses and gold & silver investments?
